Note(s) & Commentary:
- Simple scans using Microsoft Windows Defender and MalwareBytes were NOT effective in addressing this particular issue. HOWEVER, they are STILL RECOMMENDED to be used to scan any computer suffering this issue PRIOR to the following final fix, should the issue persist. Further, in the instance that triggered this KB Article, both failed to find any PUPs or malware.
- If already using a given AM (always recommended) that missed a malware, it is always recommended to ALSO scan with a competing product as the given malware may have camophlaged itself to the installed AM software.
Procedure:
- As noted, first scan with the installed anti-malware (AM), such as Microsoft Windows Defender. AND download/install and scan with MalwareBytes (or another similarly robust and trusted AM.
- When viewing one of the noted system pop-ups, look for the "..." and click it.
- In the context sensitive menu that should be displayed, select the option to disable or hide pop-ups from dailyrumour.
